Health and safety

We are committed to providing the safest camp environment possible. Our staff are trained in first aid and safety procedures, have criminal reference checks and have years of experience working with children.

Medical + Allergies

Before your child attends any of our programs, parents must complete a thorough medical form which remains in each campers ‘file’ after registration. Campers should not come to camp with known communicable diseases or health nuisances (such as chicken pox, lice, viral infections, rashes, fevers, flu symptoms etc.). Please be sure to communicate any concerns you may have in this area to the camp director before your session begins. We do not give children medication or any other fast relieving treatments. If your child has allergies, asthma, or anaphylaxis and your child requires treatment while at camp, you must fill out the section of our medical form outlining this. Any medications or vitamins that your child will need to take throughout the day will need to be given to the camp director at the beginning of each day. If your child has any allergies and/or uses an Epi-Pen please be sure to send their Epi-Pen with them as they will need to keep these accessible throughout the day as well.

Sunscreen

Day camp in an outdoor setting requires particular attention to the effects of the sun. Our commitment to sun safety involves particular attention to parent education and staff training. We ask that parents apply sunscreen prior to campers leaving their home each day and our camp staff will schedule regular re-application at camp. Parents are asked to leave the sunscreen of their choice in their child's backpack so that our staff can either directly assist our campers or supervise them depending on their age and skill.

Bug spray

If desired, we ask parents to apply bug spray prior to campers leaving their home each day and our camp staff will schedule re-application if need be throughout the day. If you have a specific bug spray you like to use, to please put this in your child's backpack. If not, camp staff will use a bug spray we have on site if needed.

Nuts

We provide a NUT SAFE environment. Put simply, we do not provide any foods that contain nuts and nut products and strongly encourage families to refrain from sending foods with nut products to camp. We have also adopted a NO SHARING FOOD policy as there are many other foods to which campers are allergic. With that said, it is important to send your child with enough food for the day to satisfy their appetite until the end of day pick up, to avoid campers sharing food.

Behaviour

We strive to provide a positive environment in which each child is respected and his/her right to engage in the program is encouraged and protected. Clear expectation and guidelines are given to each child at the start of our day/program. We will always do our best to help a child correct and learn from unacceptable behaviours and strive for ‘situations’ to become learning opportunities and growth whenever possible. In cases where a child is putting themselves or others in danger, emotionally and especially physically, due to the choices they have made, parents will be called and asked to collect their child from the program. As we need to protect all children in the program by providing them a safe, secure and supported environment, we adhere strongly to this policy.

Weather

We run our programs rain or shine. If it rains, we will get wet. Rain does not mean cancellation for us. If it’s raining, we’ll change the program for the day to provide the children with as much cover as possible. If it is raining heavily, we’ll get to a dry area as soon as possible and remain there until the rain eases or we think it’s safe to do so. Typically, with our Camp Querencia and Kinder Kids day camps, we will only cancel our program when conditions are considered dangerous. i.e. combinations of heavy rain, lightening, wind, darkness, flooding etc. Local weather stations are consulted to bring this result. Due to many of our programs being outdoors, sheltered areas are limited and may take some time to get to and from. Before the start of each program, a packing list for all weather conditions is provided in order to prepare all of our campers for a successful experience at camp. Please follow these as best as possible.
*If a child does not have a needed item listed on the packing list we will do our best to assist in lending items to those campers for the day.
